Welcome to our May 20 Midweek Edition of Action Alerts!

By Abbi Lichtenstein

In this newsletter, you’ll find action steps to take so you can resist the Trump administration’s unlawful actions against our government and help protect our democracy.

“Here it is: the one, big, beautiful ‘Screw America’ bill. … It screws you; it screws America by cutting health care.” — Rep. Steven Horsford on the GOP’s budget bill

Call or Write to Congress:

  1. Demand that your Republican representative votes NO on the budget bill, including the dangerous cuts to Medicaid and SNAP. Fill out the form here so you can find the number to call.

  1. House Republicans are pushing ahead with their plan to defund Planned Parenthood. Many women rely on PP for access to health care, like cancer screenings, birth control, and more. Send a letter to your representatives to protect Planned Parenthood and demand that they vote NO on cuts.

  1. From CAP, Tell Congress: Defend America Against Trump’s Power Grab. Write to your representatives and tell them to fight back against Trump's blatant power grab and protect our democracy and freedoms. Send your message here.

  1. Tell your senator to reject the “Silencing Americans Act” which would suppress our vote. Unfortunately, it has already been passed in the House. For more information about the act, the EO Trump signed to further suppress our vote (based on voters’ race, income, and ZIP code), and your senators’ phone numbers and email addresses, click here.

  2. From Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance: tell Congress to Take Action to Prevent the Sell-Off of Public Land. Reps. Celeste Maloy (R-Utah’s 2nd District) and Mark Amodei (R-Nevada’s 2nd District) sneaked a provision into the House Budget Reconciliation Bill to sell off tens of thousands of acres of public lands—more than 11,000 of which are in Utah’s Washington and Beaver counties. To find out how to contact your representative, click here.

Rallies:

  1. Join the NO KINGS nationwide mass protest on June 14, organized by Indivisible. NO KINGS is a national day of action and mass mobilization in response to increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption from Trump and his allies. We’ve watched as they’ve cracked down on free speech, detained people for their political views, threatened to deport American citizens, and defied the courts. They’ve done all of this while continuing to serve and enrich their billionaire allies. Please invite three friends to come with you. You’d be surprised by how many people would go to this rally (because they don’t agree with the Trump regime’s actions) if they had a gentle push. For more information and to find out where there’s a rally near you click here.

  1. Union of Veterans Council, AFL-CIO, is organizing a Unite Veterans, Unite America rally in Washington, D.C, at the National Mall on June 6. Join them and stand up against the attacks on their jobs, benefits, and institutions they defended so honorably. Here’s more information.

  1. Action Network is organizing Tesla Takedown protests every week. Find a protest near you here.

  2. The Big List of Protest will help you find a rally near you.

Town Halls:

Here is information on the People’s Town Halls that you can attend in person. Town Halls give you an opportunity to connect with neighbors, community leaders, and organizations to discuss the issues that are important to you and find ways to take action.

Events:

  1. On Thursday, May 22, 9 AM–5 PM PT, please join Field Team Six on Zoom for their third annual tentpole event—the Register Democrats Summit 2025. You’ll hear from the best and brightest minds from elected officials, tech leaders, and grass roots organizers. For more information, to find out who will be speaking, and to register click here.

  1. Attend What’s the Plan? A Weekly Discussion with Indivisible’s Co-Founders every Thursday, 3–4 PM ET. Discuss what is happening in the chaos of the White House and learn about the plan to stop it. Please sign up here.

  1. Join Indivisible Montgomery for a Zoom call: Wednesday, May 21, 8 PM ET, for their May monthly meeting featuring their partner, the States Project. Topic of discussion: Building the Nation's Newest Pro-Democracy Trifecta in Virginia. It’s important to defend the House legislature and if Virginians elect a pro-democracy governor, state lawmakers will have the governing power they need to not only fight a federal MAGA agenda but also to meaningfully improve lives for the people they serve. RSVP here.

Phone Banks, Canvassing, Texting, and Postcard Writing:

  1. Join Promote the Vote PA on various dates to make calls for the 2025 Municipal Primary Elections and help Democrats win in these elections. Sign up here.

  1. Please join a virtual phone bank for Democrats to call North Carolina voters on various dates. It’s an opportunity to build power for the Democrats so we can flip North Carolina blue! Sign up here.

  1. Canvass for Democrats and talk with voters in North Carolina in various counties. This is also a great opportunity to help flip North Carolina blue!

  1. The SAVE Act, A GOP-backed bill would make voter registration significantly more difficult for married women, transgender individuals, seniors, people with disabilities, and minorities. The legislation is aimed at addressing the largely unsubstantiated issue of noncitizen voting. While the bill has already passed in the House, it could still be blocked in the Senate if Democratic members remain united.

Common Cause will be hosting phone banks every Tuesday, 5:30–7:30 PM ET, and Thursday, 6–8 PM ET, to call swing state voters and encourage them to urge their legislators to oppose this bill. Volunteers will have the opportunity to patch voters directly through to their lawmakers, allowing them to express their outrage and advocate against the legislation. Training will be provided at the start of each shift. Sign up here.

  2. Grassroots Democrats, in partnership with the California Democrats, Team Pelosi, and the Los Angeles Democratic Party, are hosting the

#HandsOff Our Health Care Phonebank on Thursdays. Fifteen million Californians and 72 million Americans rely on Medicaid to get the care they need. They are mobilizing constituents in three battleground districts to fight against the Republicans who are attacking our health care. Please sign up here to join.

  1. Join Black Voters Matter on Zoom, 6 PM ET, every Tuesday, as they gather to drive change through digital organizing. Their texting campaigns will give you the opportunity to engage residents across the U.S. while empowering them to make a positive impact in their communities. For more information and to sign up, click here.

  2. Activate America has launched five new campaigns to focus on Trump's horrendous tariffs. These campaigns are in five of the most competitive swing districts in the country: Iowa’s 1st and 3rd Districts, Nebraska’s 2nd District, New Jersey’s 7th District, and New York’s 17th District. You will need to provide your own postcards. Learn more here.

  3. Join Third Act and Activate America to write postcards! Write postcards to voters and help safeguard our democracy, win elections, and build voter enthusiasm and turnout to elect progressives and climate champions! Sign up here to request voter names and addresses for a variety of campaigns in key swing states and districts.
