“The ‘Big Ugly Reconciliation Bill’ passed the House last week, and faces an uphill battle in the Senate. Unfortunately, this bill confirms our greatest fears as written. Between cuts to Medicaid, food aid (SNAP), and other services, MAGA cuts will take an average of $700 out of the take-home pay of people earning from $17,000 to $51,000 starting next year, and more thereafter. On the other hand, those with incomes over $4.3 million will receive an extra $389,000 or more on average in their after-tax income in 2026.
“The fight is not over, and we are keeping tabs on this bill. Since the service cuts run so deep in it, it is a third rail for many red-state Senators. We need to let voters in red states know what their Senators are about to do, and get them to raise holy hell about it.”
