Welcome to the Fourth of July weekend edition of our partner newsletter!
“When a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them [the people] under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.” — Declaration of Independence
What’s next? From Indivisible.org:
“You showed up to say No Kings, but the work continues and we need you in the fight. Here are ways to get involved.
“As ICE raids escalate and Trump doubles down on authoritarian tactics—including politicizing the military—we’re meeting the moment with action. The road ahead isn’t just about one protest or one day. It’s about building a movement powerful enough to win against authoritarian forces dead set on destroying our democracy.”

See below for the Good Trouble Lives On national day of action info.
Good Trouble Lives On is a national day of action to respond to the attacks posed on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration and to remind them that in America, the power lies with the people.
Whether you're outraged by attacks on civil rights, the gutting of essential services, disappearances of our neighbors, or the assault on free speech and our right to organize, we invite you to join us in making good trouble.

It’s postcard time from Indivisible South Side!
“DYK there's an election on November 4? In Virginia, people will be voting for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, state legislature, and more down-ballot races. This is a state race, but one with national implications.
"As Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger's campaign notes, "[Virginia is] a proving ground for post-Trump America, a stress test for democracy, and potentially the last gasp of normalcy before things get even weirder."
Defeat Republicans with Postcards to Swing States by writing to likely Democratic voters in Virginia.
While the postcards won't go out until the fall, you can still start writing this summer.
Indivisible SF is asking us to tell our MoCs to hold hearings on new the ICE concentration camps.
“As masked goons—who, at least some of the time, are ICE agents—snatch people off of our streets and take them who-knows-where, the Trump/MAGA regime has been scaling up their detention and deportation capabilities to process the sheer numbers of people they’re grabbing.”
Call your Members of Congress and tell them: Hold hearings on the ICE detention camps!
Chris from Bowers News Media sent us some good news!
“It [the big, ugly bill that Congress just passed] has a fatal flaw that could still allow us to stop many of the worst parts of it from ever taking effect.
“Because Donald Trump is an egomaniac who will do anything to hurt anyone while helping himself, the bill is structured so that all of the new spending provisions associated with deportations and building up the military, as well as with Trump's gimmicky campaign promises, expire in 2028. Further, almost all of the cuts to the social safety net, and even some of the cuts to green energy investments, do not go into effect until 2029. Basically, all of the perks happen during Trump's time in office, while all of the pain will be felt by his successor, thus making Trump look good at the expense of literally everyone else. (Click here to read an article from Politico last month that goes into detail on this aspect of the bill.)
“This means that if Democrats can retake Congress and the White House in the 2026 and 2028 elections, they will be able to quickly pass a bill that would block the social safety net cuts and not renew any of the spending related to Donald Trump's deportations, military build up, and campaign promises. To top it off, they can also end Trump's tax cuts for wealthiest Americans, thus rendering the bill deficit neutral.”

The Network for Public Education is sounding the alarm: Trump is withholding $6.2 billion from public schools.
“The Trump administration informed state education departments that it is defying Congress and immediately withholding $6.2 billion in federal K-12 education funds—a devastating blow to public schools across the nation.”
Check out how much your state stands to lose.
Write a letter to Congress demanding that they to restore the cuts.
