Trump Cuts Left Texas Weather Service Gutted Ahead of Deadly Flood
As a deadly flash flood hit Kerr County, Texas, The New York Times reported that critical positions in Central Texas offices of the National Weather Service went unfilled after Donald Trump and Elon Musk oversaw cuts of nearly 600 National Weather Service staff.
They have since failed to backfill key positions that experts deemed critical. For example, the San Antonio weather office does not have a permanent warning coordination meteorologist, and in San Angelo, the weather office is acting without a meteorologist in charge or a senior hydrologist.
Experts warned that Trump’s indiscriminate job cuts would cost lives. He didn’t care. Trump chose politics over public safety.
What happened in Texas can happen anywhere. For example, DOGE cuts to FEMA will leave people stranded during hurricane season without access to lifesaving resources.
After Promising Not To Cut Medicaid, Trump Lies Again and Enacts Biggest Cut to Health Care in American History
Two months ago, Donald Trump promised he wouldn’t cut Medicaid — and even went as far as promising to veto any bill that would do so. He lied.
Trump and the Republicans’ agenda will give billionaires and the ultra-wealthy a massive tax handout, but for working families it will:
Rip away health care
Make it harder to put food on the table
Raise prices
Kill jobs
Shutter small businesses
Put homeownership out of reach
Put higher education out of reach
Trump’s budget also includes some other great perks for millionaires and billionaires, including fully tax-deductible private jets.
