Trump finally ends up on the wrong end of MAGA ire

When was the last time the Democrats and the MAGA mainstream jumped into bed together? Never?

Leave it to Donald Trump, the man who always pushes the boundaries of what we thought of as acceptable or even possible, to achieve the equivalent of forming a snowball in Hell. 

Trump has roundly refused to hand over the contents of the DOJ file of convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Attorney General Pam Bondi has claimed such a file does not exist, even though she earlier claimed to have his client list on her desk. Such inexplicable messaging has left the conspiracy-believing MAGA horde howling, while stars in the MAGA world, like Steve Bannon and Laura Loomer, are predicting political devastation if Trump goes back on his promise to release the Epstein files. 

Meanwhile, Democratic lawmakers pushed a vote to force the DOJ to release the files. Republican members of the House originally demonstrated their absolute fealty to Trump instead of their voters by voting against it. When Democrat Ro Khanna asked, “Are you on the side of the rich and powerful, or are you on the side of the people?” Republicans rallied to the side of Trump. They voted against unveiling evidence that includes a CD labelled “girl pics nude book 4” and massage tables.

But, oddly enough, no fewer than six Republican House members seem to agree with Democrat Eric Swalwell.

They have joined the now-bipartisan effort to release the Epstein files. Of course, these Republicans are still leaderless because Mike Johnson has more waffles than an IHOP. 

The Hill has neatly summed up this situation:

“On Tuesday, Johnson said the Trump administration ‘should put everything out there and let the people decide,’ marking a break with the president, who has urged his followers to forget Epstein and move on.

“But on Wednesday, Johnson said his words were ‘misrepresented,’ insisting there’s no daylight between his position and that of Trump.”

Who can guess what today will bring?

The MAGA outrage over the Trump Administration’s refusal to hand over the Epstein documents is baffling. After all, over more than a decade of Trump being Trump, they’ve forgiven him for any number of crimes, scams, lies, and cons. In a time filled with daily betrayals by Trump and his minions, it is hard to understand that this one is the incident that incites their fury, but we should take advantage of that rage. 

Why is it so important that Epstein’s “client” lists be released? Could it be because Trump spent years repeating lies and conspiracy theories about Epstein’s death? Or maybe it’s all of the time he spent accusing Biden, Obama, and Comey of creating false evidence? That would be criminal, so why is Trump trying to hide their supposed crimes?

The questions multiply the more you think about it. But one thing is utterly, transparently clear: the MAGA voters and the Democratic lawmakers need to succeed in forcing Trump’s hand and releasing the files. 

If MAGA is able to understand the importance of the Epstein files, maybe they will be open to learning the truth about the budget bill’s cuts to essential services and tax credits for the wealthy, or the National Guard troops in Los Angeles, or even the role immigrants play in improving our society. Maybe an ice storm is coming to Hell after all.
