You are restoring my faith in humanity. Thank you Charlotte!

If they thought the cities in the South would let them terrorize our neighbors, they thought very wrong. Side note - I think the technicality with being in Charlotte is that Charlotte has an international airport. Those function as borders too so the 100 mile radius would apply to most of the USA, actually.

I am in awe & have so much respect for the American KIDS - let me be clear - NOT THE ADULTS😡 bc it’s the ADULTS that are f’d up & the KIDS are having to do the job that the American ADULTS are SUPPOSED TO BE DOING FOR THEIR CHILDREN. Shame on American adults😭!!! #wakeupAmerica

Get your facts straight!

The vast majority of the people out protesting since the beginning of Trump 2.0 have been Boomers and Gen X. I know because I am one of them and have been out protesting 1 - 3 times per week for months! (FYI, I am absolutely not blaming younger people who may not have the bandwidth due to family commitments).

I belong to a local Indivisible chapter that had about 1100 people at the beginning of the year and now is approaching 4000 members. There have also been several new chapters formed in the 5-county Charlotte Metro area, most of them in the red counties that surround Mecklenburg County.

We have weekly visibility pop-up protests at various locations around Mecklenburg County. It has grown to 20 or more protests per week! One of the reasons we have been able to mobilize people so quickly in Charlotte is because of the infrastructure we have built over the course of the year since Trump was inaugurated.

It's the Adult Republican Magats, who voted for this, not Adult Democrats!! We are Generation X and we support Democracy and so do our kids, so for you to group us all together like that is wrong!! We are protesting! We are voting blue 💙, We know how to raise our children!! We are not them!! Do not compare 💙 to 🚫👑🤡💩🧊

LouMac's avatar

I really would like to NOT compare but this’s the ONLY country that has mass murders & so much violence with a huge mental health problem! You’re also unable to accept constructive criticism & take everything so personally. Only those who have massive egos &/or suffer from high levels of insecurity, take offense to what I said. Kids have told me that adults don’t have a backbone! Don’t shoot the messenger🤷🏻‍♀️

Sandra Tuttle's avatar

You are not being helpful Lou, and you were not constructive. Do better.

LouMac's avatar

You’re out protesting “1-3x pw for months!” How’s that working out for you🤔🤨🙇🏻‍♀️?!! Let’s be honest — protesting isn’t power. REVOLUTION is. A tiny nation like Nepal, barely 25 mil strong, ROSE UP, overthrew their corrupt gvt & installed a female president just 3 months ago. THAT is COURAGE. THAT is BACKBONE.

Aaaand then there’s Amerikkka…+/- 334 mil people clutching their pearls, whining, “protesting,” begging leaders to behave, too terrified to RISE with the STRENGTH Nepal showed the world. The contrast is EMBARRASSING.

WTFU…the West has been lying to us for decades. Turning us into morons who are anti Muslim, suffering from Islamophobia, anti EVERYTHING that doesn’t fall in line with THEIR agendas. Countries attacking other countries, forcing them to become displaced, then cry when these displaced people in the millions seek land where they can find peace, justice, love & safety for themselves & their families. These few white men that run our lives & the world are evil…beyond evil. THEY are the axis of EVIL. They are THE DEVIL. SATAN.

#Nepal didn’t wait. They ACTED. #justice #wakeupAmerica #TYT #humansFirst #DEI #zionistAreTerrorists #zionistscum

Jennifer Canter's avatar

I’m telling you right now to knock it off. You obviously don’t understand you cannot compare the United States to most countries, especially Nepal and European countries, due size and population. Furthermore, you’re using faulty logic as the countries your naming have been under attack for far longer than the U.S. Lastly, stop being rude to people out doing the hard work. Your negativity and ignorance is unnecessary and unwanted.

Can any objective observer deny that Donald Trump is guilty of treason? He designed ICE as a secret police force to operate inside the USA, but outside both State and Federal laws.

In an attempt to seize unconstitutional powers that will enable him to rule the USA as a dictator, Donald Trump is trying to deploy both ICE and the military in American cities. His goal: to overthrow our Constitutional Republic and replace it with a Fascist, White-Supremacist, Christian-Nationalist Kleptocracy to be ruled by the Trump Family Crime Syndicate.

How does Treasonous Trump intend to overthrow our government?

ICE is pivotal. In a blatantly treasonous act, Donald Trump pardoned the violent criminals who—in response to his call—attacked a Joint Session of Congress on 1/6/2021. Some of these criminals are now ICE deployed bounty-hunters—a Gestapo-like private police force directed by Donald Trump to ignore the law, ignore due-process, kidnap People of Color, and (before the courts can learn of their existence) make them disappear.

Who supports Trump’s treasonous acts?

Trump’s MAGA base includes a hopelessly corrupt Supreme Court. It includes criminals serving in the President’s Cabinet. It includes hundreds of corrupt Republican Members of Congress, thousands of corrupt Republican office-holders, and millions of Neo-Nazis who hate People-of-Color.

Who does not support Trump’s treasonous acts?

It is an irrefutable fact that Donald Trump’s Fascist presidency is opposed by the majority of Americans. Revealed by the October 18th “NO KINGS” protests followed by the total rejection of MAGA Republicans in the November 4th elections, the Trump presidency—as reported by Fox News—is currently approved by only 38% of Americans; 60% disapprove.

The 60% majority will not rest until the treasonous convicted criminal, Donald Trump, and his treasonous enablers, are removed from office, prosecuted, convicted, and thrown into prison.

⭐🇺🇸🇺🇦  “The Promise the World Didn’t Forget”

In a land full of echoes from struggles long past,

Where the truth must stand tall

and the lies never last,

A bright little promise still shines, glowing yet—

A vow from the world

we should never forget.

It came from a time when the globe stood as one,

When fascism’s darkness

was finally undone.

Our grandparents fought with a courage so true,

So tyrants would fall

and the daylight break through.

They crossed stormy oceans with fire in their eyes,

They challenged the strongmen

and silenced their lies.

Their bravery carved out the freedoms we keep—

A legacy guarding

the wakeful and deep.

And today in Ukraine, that courage returns,

In people defending

their homes as it burns.

They stand against Russia’s illegal parade,

A tyrant whose cruelty

the whole world has weighed.

We remember the moment the globe made its stand—

The Budapest promise,

the word of each land:

Ukraine gave its weapons so peace could take root,

And trusted the world

not to follow the brute.

But here in our homeland, confusion still spreads

Through FOX-colored lenses

and right-winger threads.

They shout “all is fine!” while the families cry,

As prices climb higher

and checks barely buy

Insurance, and food, and the basics of day—

While propagandists twist

what the numbers convey.

So the grandparents rise with a bright steady beat,

With phones shining fiercely

like lamps in the street.

They comment with courage, they post without fear,

They lift Indy media

the nation must hear.

They share what is fact-based, transparent, and clear,

They push back the lies

till the truth reappears.

Each repost a lantern, each comment a flame—

A spark from the past

with a new modern name.

From Normandy’s beaches to Kyiv’s brave stand,

From WW2 sacrifice

to thumbs in our hand—

The torch passes onward from challenge to threat,

For truth is a promise

the world won’t forget.

Bravo Charlotte, NC, my home state. It's the largest city in our state and proudly diverse and well educated! Not so much the counties surrounding it.

Too bad Governor Stein hasn't stepped in to help solve this problem. He could easily and quickly change the dynamics of ICE in North Carolina.

One. Declare state of emergency

Two. Activate the North Carolina National Guard

Three. Monitor and track ice activities anywhere and everywhere they operate.

It could all be done by executive order today if he wanted to.

Clare's avatar

Yes, totally agree. He's way too meek and mild to handle this situation. He just wants another term. Charlotte helped to put him in the governors mansion so he better show more spine than what he's currently not doing.

I love the forms of social protest I’m seeing—there’s real courage in naming what ICE is doing and refusing to let that violence pass as normal. But I’m increasingly convinced that protest alone isn’t enough. Alongside raising our voices, we need to be quietly organizing modern-day “underground railroads”—especially for asylum seekers who are here legally but are now having their status stripped away, pushed back toward the very persecution they fled.

Harriet Tubman didn’t just denounce injustice; she walked with people step by step into freedom. That’s the model we need now: communities working directly with vulnerable families to carve out pathways for flourishing and protection, even when the state tries to close every door.

This is exactly what I was trying to name in my own piece below, “My City Has Become an Occupied Terror Zone.” Protest exposes the terror. But accompaniment—the hidden, stubborn work of keeping people alive—interrupts it.
