Thank you for bringing this disastrous bill to light. I shall be forwarding this vital message to my grand daughters. Sadly this is yet again, another way the DjtRuMp Regime is hoping to exploit and exhaust the younger generations of women! We must be Constantly Alert ‼️ to Prevent this bunch of Bullies, who are so fearful of women, that they will do anything to destroy our Country, the United States of America, and our Future… the future of our children, grandchildren and if there is any possibility to leave a better world… a future to Remind us that All Are Created EQUAL! With Equal Opportunities and Inalienable Rights ! All genders, all creeds, all nationalities, all parties. We ALL, We EACH HAVE INALIENABLE RIGHTS!
I recently applied for my passport. Besides the fact I had to drive outside of my county to get an appointment sooner than 4-6 weeks, once I arrived, I was informed they would be unable to accept my paperwork and my application would be rejected if I didn’t also have a certified marriage certificate (I hyphenated my maiden-married names 30 years ago). So despite having to have jumped through similar hoops to get my enhanced drivers license, and providing that, plus my Social Security card - all which have my hyphenated last name, as well as a certified birth certificate, because all of my documentation did not exactly match my birth certificate, I had to provide my marriage certificate or I would be denied my passport. There is *NOTHING* on the State Department website that points to needing this paperwork. So more time and another appointment later in order to submit my application.
Another consideration is divorced women - they would need a certified copy of their prior marriage certificate in order to “close the loop” to get the documentation they need. And to do so, that has to go through the county wherein they were married, so more time to get the document pulled, certified, and mailed. And this doesn’t even scratch the surface on the lack of accessibility to current/acceptable forms of ID required in this act. Certified documents like birth and marriage average about $25 a piece here in WA State. Then add the $165 for the passport book ($130), intake fee ($35), plus at least $15 for your passport photos, and you’re looking at minimum $230 to get the kind of ID this bill is requiring in order to vote. This bill is 100% women voter suppression, disenfranchisement, and a poll tax most Americans cannot afford.
