The GOP’s Attacks on Planned Parenthood & How to Respond
Congressional Republicans, the Trump administration, and Elon Musk are using Medicaid to push their own political agenda and impose their beliefs on everyone.
After months of threats and ongoing attacks on Planned Parenthood, Speaker Johnson finally made the plans of anti-abortion politicians and their allies clear: They want to threaten health care for millions of people by shutting down Planned Parenthood and ending access to vital health care programs in communities nationwide.
When politicians talk about “defunding” Planned Parenthood, they really mean blocking millions of patients who depend on public health care funds, like Medicaid, from getting their care at Planned Parenthood health centers.
Messaging Guidance:
After months of threats and ongoing attacks on Planned Parenthood, House Speaker Mike Johnson announced plans to “defund” Planned Parenthood and threaten health care for millions of people.
This is abortion opponents’ latest attempt to eliminate abortion in the U.S., and it shows they’re willing to hurt patients and the health care system to do it.
They’re using abortion as an excuse to shut down Planned Parenthood health centers. That would take away affordable health care options for everyone.
Planned Parenthood is a trusted health care provider. Even Trump supporters disagree with taking away funding from Planned Parenthood.
The consequences would be catastrophic. "Defunding" Planned Parenthood could shut down health centers and strip patients across the country of access to essential and affordable health care.
No other provider would be able to fill the gap left by Planned Parenthood. “Defunding” Planned Parenthood would threaten millions of people’s access to essential and lifesaving health care.
Planned Parenthood health centers are an irreplaceable part of our health care system. "Defunding" Planned Parenthood blocks patients from getting the care they need. Without Planned Parenthood, many patients would have nowhere to turn for care.
Planned Parenthood provides over 2 million patients a year with essential, preventive sexual and reproductive health care, like birth control, cancer screenings, wellness exams, STI testing and treatment, and more.
Planned Parenthood health centers primarily serve women, people with low incomes, Black, Latino, and Indigenous communities, LGBTQ+ people, and others who face barriers to accessing care.
The majority of Planned Parenthood patients rely on Medicaid and other federal and state programs to access care.
Congressional Republicans, the Trump administration, and Elon Musk are using Medicaid to push their own political agenda and impose their beliefs on everyone.
They want to shut down Planned Parenthood health centers to appease their anti-abortion backers, and they’re willing to take away patients’ access to birth control, cancer screenings, and STI testing and treatment to get their way.
They’re using Medicaid funding as a tool to target Planned Parenthood health centers — even though federal Medicaid funds are not used for abortion except for rare exceptions. This is their latest attempt to block patients from getting care and shut down health centers.
Trump is going back on his promise to leave abortion to the states. Now he and his party are going after access everywhere — by trying to shut down Planned Parenthood health centers because of the federation’s commitment to providing abortions.
Americans overwhelmingly support Planned Parenthood and abortion access. Planned Parenthood is more popular than any elected official or party, and voters do not want politicians interfering in their health care.
nailed it, as always!
