It’s happening all the way down to the local level…state reps getting ‘paid’ to push through harmful legislation such as the SAFE Act in Ohio. It’s not hard to find the info (https://www.opensecrets.org/).
I think ‘their’ $$$ would be better invested in schools (but not to the mad moms club book banners), making DAMN sure every.single.veteran is cared for (including lgbtqia+) and providing temporary housing while the homeless are getting care for mental/physical health issues, including addiction (again, back to the veterans).
