• The Texas Republican surrender to Donald Trump has resulted in a map that assaults every community in the state. It is a cowardly betrayal by Greg Abbott, Congressional Republicans and legislative leaders.

• Abbott and Texas Republican leaders created an unprecedented political emergency for Texas and America. Democratic lawmakers are confronting the emergency head on. We must deny Republicans the quorum they need and raise the threat level given the unparalleled attack on democracy that may have begun in Texas but can sweep dangerously across the country.

• What is happening now is a pressure test for democracy. The U.S. Voting Rights Act is under attack across the country. It must be defended and protected.

Flood victims are now Abbott’s victims too. We call on Abbott to immediately deliver flood relief dollars to the Hill Country flood victims.
