We Have to Start Building Deeper Digital Infrastructure Now
I’ve sat in countless pitch meetings with party-affiliated groups, donor advisors and wealthy Americans.
I’ve trumpeted the importance of building a massive, decentralized digital army that spreads pro-democracy messaging and facts 24/7/365.
Why?
Because OVER HALF of Americans now get their news and form their views in their social media feeds.
For years, Trump and his Republican billionaire backers have invested in this kind of infrastructure on the right. The result?
The right is out-posting the left on all major social platforms. They are demolishing us online.
We’ve never gotten that billionaire backing, but we’re not letting that deter us. We know that if we don’t match the pace of MAGA’s drumbeat messaging, we will forever be at a disadvantage in the digital war for hearts and minds.
There are certainly other investments that need to be made. For instance, we need a more robust alternative media ecosystem (
, and Crooked Media are examples of strides forward on this front, though we need more).Our Lane
But that isn’t our lane at DemCast. We’re a pro-democracy activist organization, and our place in the digital infrastructure of the future is leading the charge in VOLUME: deploying tens of thousands of social media accounts across all platforms to post, algorithmically boost, comment and otherwise spread messaging and impactful content that is helpful to our movement.
We’re re-tooling with an eye to security, but soon we will open up a massive recruitment to build a Digital Resistance Team that meets the moment.
Nobody is paying us to do this. But it needs to be done. Perhaps if we build it, resources will follow.

The reason we lost the Presidency in 2024 is clear. The MAGA Republican social media network convinced a majority of American voters of an “alternate reality” that caused them to vote against their own personal best interest.
In recent years we made lots of progress in overcoming our disadvantage but we clearly have more work to do.
